About the Course
Community WASH projects developed with the support of development partners and non-governmental organizations at the community level, are normally implemented with minimal community participation. As a result, there is little ownership by the communities, resulting in low rate of sustainability after handing over the projects to the communities. The main goal of this course is to focus on key success factors and enablers for sustainability of community WASH projects after handing over to the community.
The module provides processes of participation that generate ownership of community managed WASH interventions. The participants will be taken through the various levels of participation, and the generally observed levels of ownership, commitment to maintenance and sustainability. Site exposure visits for practical learning is covered to give first hand practical experiences.
Objectives
- Be able to appreciate and recognize the various levels of participation in community managed WASH interventions.
- Be able to relate the level of participation with the level of ownership of community managed WASH interventions.
- Be able to recognize the correlation between ownership and sustainability of community managed WASH interventions.
- To understand the process of nurturing participation in community managed WASH Projects
